Every day millions of old cell phones and empty printer cartridges are thrown away and end up in our nation's landfills. By providing a recycling/reuse program, we can make a difference and help reduce the toxic chemicals going into our environment. All profits from these recycling efforts are donated to support the fight against breast cancer. More

The can-am spyder
What's one of the most intriguing motorcycles on the market? A trike. The Can-Am Spyder, made by Bombardier Recreational Products, looks sleek and powerful but has two front wheels, making it easier to ride (and more appealing to baby boomers, who still like flash but are less interested in danger). The first $15,500 Spyder was delivered to Jay Leno in 2007, and the model is currently sold out through midspring. More

The Generic Theater of Virginia holds a unique place in the cultural life of Hampton Roads as the area's "off-Broadway" playhouse. Since 1981 it has challenged and delighted audience with the new, and off-beat in theater fare, always looking for plays of artistic merit which, for a variety of reasons, are unlikely to be produced on other stages.

My paintings are inspired by pop culture iconography and cartoon imagery as well as the work of masters of varied genres and periods such as Frank Frazetta, Simon Bisley, Chuck Close, Joel-Peter Witkin, Sebastian Krueger, Richard Estes, Grant Wood, Edward Hopper, Gustav Klimt, Albrecht Duerer and Hieronymus Bosch.
I work primarily in oils and acrylics on canvas or wood, but occasionally use resin on varied surfaces to add more depth to the painting.

Las Pajas and the Lucky Haitians

Lost in the vast sugarcane fields of the Dominican Republic, there are hundreds of small villages called Bateys. These underdeveloped towns were established in the beginning of the 20th Century to house migrant Haitian workers during the sugarcane season. The Bateys were intended to be seasonal towns. But in the last 40 years, the Dominican Republic has become a symbol of hope and prosperity for the Haitians. Because of this, more and more Haitians have discontinued going back to Haiti after the season and have started families in the Bateys.

"The End of the Baby Boomer Generation”

In the words of Bob Dylan, "times, they are a-changin'." New technologies in telecommunications and mass media (think satellites and the internet) have transformed our world immeasurably and rendered 'classical' modes of thought outdated and irrelevant. Those of us who grew up in the 1990s and had to deal with shit like being told by teachers that we weren't good enough and that we needed to 'adapt' to the 'New Economy' know this all too well. As a lone atom from this 'New Generation,' I have realized that those who told me to adapt had it backwards: the New Economy will have to 'adapt' to ME and not the other way around; and, by 'adapt,' I mean cease to exist!

Eco Chic - passing trend or an enduring change?

No matter how much we consider ourselves to be individuals, most of us have an innate need to be accepted by whomever we consider to be our peer group and will alter the way we present ourselves and our buying habits accordingly. The following of fashion and trends are often about personal validation, acceptance and self-esteem rather than practicality or economy.

15 Green Musicians and Bands

Pearl Jam
These down-to-earth rockers made headlines during their tour last year when they donated a total of $100,000 to nine organizations working on climate change, renewable energy, and other green causes. On their previous tour, the band donated funds to help preserve Madagascan rainforest.
